electrolysis hair removal

FAQ ELECTROLYSIS HAIR REMOVAL

Electrolysis is hair removal using a probe to treat each hair individually with a high-frequency electric current. At NEW ERA SKIN , we understand the hair growth cycle and know the best time to treat hair to achieve successful destruction of the hair root.

How does electrolysis work?

Electrolysis hair removal is an alternative to laser hair removal. It’s for light, blonde, grey or white hairs on the face and body which NO laser will remove. Each hair is treated individually with a high-frequency electric current. The current passes down the probe to heat and destroy the hair’s root, which prevents further hair growth. Just a few millimetres of hair are enough to treat. Treatment should be spaced approximately two to four weeks apart, and multiple sessions are often needed to achieve the best results.

Will it work for my hair and skin type?

Electrolysis works best on hair that cannot be treated with laser hair removal. Since Electrolysis treats each hair individually it is usually recommended after the Laser Hair Removal sessions to treat those stubborn hair which remain unaffected by laser.

What areas of my body can be treated?

At New Era Skin Aesthetics, we treat almost every area of the body and face. With electrolysis we treat each hair individually, the ideal areas are the small facial areas such as the chin, upper lip, earlobes and bikini, and we also treat other areas which cannot be treated with laser hair removal.

What results can I expect?

You will start to see an improvement after a couple of sessions. Your treatment sessions will be between 2 – 4 weeks apart to begin with, lengthening out as the hair reduce, the hair will gradually reduce in thickness and growth will be slower with some hair no longer returning.

Pre-treatment advice

You should limit any sort of hair removal that involves removing the hair from the root for at least four weeks before treatment. This includes plucking, waxing and threading. You should also avoid sun exposure for two weeks before and after the treatment. Prior to the treatment, please advise us if you have used any active skincare products or had any recent facial or skin treatments on the area.

How many treatments will I need?

During your consultation, we will assess the areas to be treated. Your practitioner will assist the area and recommend number of treatments needed. The average number of treatments is around 10 – 15 sessions, however ongoing maintenance is often needed.

Aftercare

After the treatment Aloe Vera and Witch Hazel is essential to keep the area hydrated and clean. We also advise to not use perfume products on the treated area. You can use an unperfumed moisturiser such as the Essential Daily Moisturiser and an SPF which provides protection from the UV rays from the sun whilst your skin heals after treatment.
