What will happen in my first laser hair removal appointment?

During your consultation, we will assess the areas to be treated. This means we’ll need a small amount of hair growth to be visible. We will then discuss the number of treatments and the intervals needed between sessions before carrying out a test on the area by shaving the hairs. This allows the laser energy to be absorbed deeper into the skin at the root of the hair. We will often test multiple laser settings to establish the best results for your skin and hair type.

Your first session can take place at least 48 hours after your test patch has been completed. You will shave at home first and then we will perform the treatment, apply aftercare and discuss this with you before scheduling your next appointment. The best results are achieved with regular treatments due to the hair growth phases.

After each treatment the hair growth will slow down and it will usually take approximately 2 weeks for the hairs to fall out. Your next appointment will be booked in about 4 – 6 weeks when some hair have regrown. With each treatment session less and less hairs will grow back and take longer to show so we will gradually space the treatments further apart.

Laser hair removal pre-treatment advice

• The area to be treated should be free from make – up, perfume, deodorant and body or face creams.
• Avoid waxing, threading, plucking, hair removal creams and bleaching for, one month prior to hair removal treatments. Hair should be shaved prior to treatment.
• There should be no active or fake tan in the area to be treated. Use of Sunbeds or prolonged exposure to sunlight is not allowed in the month prior to treatment and an SPF 30 must be used on the area between treatments. Suntans must be left to fade completely before treatment can start. Fake tans must also be fully faded before treatment can commence.
• You must stop any acid based products such as Retinol, Glycolic and Salicylic at least 1-2 weeks before each treatment.
• A medical history is taken at consultation, but we rely on you to inform us of any changes to this. We need to know of any medication you are taking including those bought from a chemist or herbalist.
• Make sure that you arrive 15 mins prior to your appointment time, this will allow us to pre cool the skin if this should be required.

Laser hair removal aftercare

• Following treatment, the area may appear red and raised and you may experience a tingling sensation. This is completely normal and should settle over the next few days.
• Make-up can be applied after 24 to 48 hours, if the skin is not sore or broken.
• Avoid gym activities, sauna and steam, excessively hot baths, massaging.
• Wash and bathe as normal but take Cool shower rather than hot baths. The skin should be patted dry and not rubbed. Use Light Soothe Serum to reduce irritation and keep the area moisturised and the skin protected.
• Use a sunscreen (30+) and protect the area from sunlight as much as possible between treatments and for at least one month after treatment ends
